To make my style unique I like to ‘crack the code’, which means using different elements and mixing them together, like a classic jacket combined with a raw denim, or a casual oxford shirt mixed with a silk bow tie and pocket square.
I like to call it: ‘The Playfull Gentleman’ or ‘ The Neo Dandy’.
I travelled to Italy to see the mills, making my own designs and fabrics so many times, but it’s still the biggest inspiration you can get.
Can you imagine all the old archives filled with thousands of designs and colors?
From the Roman time, Italy was the most important country in producing fabrics (I even have the same name as a Roman centurion (Cornelius) that’s why the knowledge of weaving and dyeing fabrics and all recipes of making colors are well kept secrets in the Italian families, who owned the wool, cotton and weaving mills.
My mother was a creative school teacher and a very good seamstress, already at the age of 4, I used to sit next to her and play with all the leftover fabrics and other stuff. She taught me all about the use of colors, the history of colors ( why purple, why blue etc.) and much more.
At the age of 12, I was able to cut and stitch a jacket myself, at the age of 20, I was making wedding gowns for my sisters, using 30 meters of silk and lace into each dress.
Being a Creative Director and Head of Design for different international menswear brands in the past 2 decades, taught me how to look to menswear in a different way: menswear design is all about small but important details like the color of the button holes or the shape of a shoulder.
One of my favorite quotes: ‘Succes depends on preparation’, is based on the philosophy that we all need to prepare ourselves with enthusiasm and positive thinking to become succesfull.
You don’t need to be very wealthy, gorgious or smart, just very enthousiastic, and I’m the living prove of that.
Enjoy all you do, enjoy LIFE!
